Tang Dynasty Zhang Xuan's "Spring Tour of the Lady of Guo State" copy by Song Huizong, now in the Liaoning Provincial Museum.
Zhang Xuan, a painter in the prosperous Tang Dynasty, was good at figure paintings, especially paintings of ladies and babies. Sometimes he also painted noble princes, saddles and horses, barriers, pavilions, trees, flowers and birds, all of which are extremely wonderful. The beautiful ladies painted are plump and thick-bodied, and the painting style of "curved eyebrows and plump cheeks" in the prosperous Tang Dynasty was developed. The use of lines is derived from carefulness, refined, simple, vigorous and flowing. The color is bright but not messy, bright but not monotonous.
On the painting, there is an inscription: "Tianshui imitation of the spring outing of the Guo Kingdom's Lady". "Tianshui" refers to Zhao Ji, Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty. When he saw "The Lady of Guo Guo's Spring Outing", he was filled with admiration. He was worried that this famous painting would be lost, so he kept a copy. Later, Zhang Xuan's original work was lost, but a copy of it was handed down. Thanks to the efforts of this emperor who loved calligraphy and painting, a moment more than a thousand years ago is vividly presented to us.
This picture depicts the spring outing of Yang Yuhuan's sister, Mrs. Guo Guo and Mrs. Qin Guo, and their attendants during the Tianbao period of the Tang Dynasty. There are three single riders clearing the way in front, followed by ladies in men's clothing riding black horses; in the middle are two riders, namely Mrs. Guo Guo and Mrs. Qin Guo, riding side by side, both riding light yellow horses. Mrs. Guo Guo is in the center of the whole painting, and Mrs. Qin Guo is in the center of the painting. The lady is facing her sideways, both of them have plump faces, graceful looks, and relaxed expressions. Finally, there are three riders, with the nanny in the middle holding the reins in one hand and holding the child in her arms in one hand. On the right side of the nanny is a lady dressed in men's clothing, and on the left is a girl in red. The work expresses the leisurely and joyful mood of ladies during their spring outing, and from one aspect reflects the luxurious and luxurious life of the upper class at that time. The outing procession forms a combination of looseness in the front and tightness in the back, with changes in unity and a sense of rhythm and rhythm.
